Cityprayer began as a simple idea, a one-hour prayer meeting that would birth a passion for prayer into the hearts of a congregation. Marilyn Hickey had a mission to instill this fervor for prayer–not only in the women–but also in the children and teens of the church.
So began the monthly prayer meetings, known simply as “Women’s Prayer.” Starting with 300 women in the church, we began interceding for our congregation, city, leaders, and our families. Children were included from the very beginning, growing up, so to speak, in this dynamic atmosphere of prayer.
Seeing the awesome results, miracles, and growth the women’s prayer was experiencing, the men in the church decided to get on board. Around 50 men began to pray and seek God to move on the hearts of men in the church and community.
By 2003, Marilyn, and her daughter, Sarah, had expanded their vision as they realized that women from around the city were attending the monthly meetings. Based on the numbers, denominations, and diversity of people represented, it became apparent that Christians around the community were passionate to see God move in their families, churches, and city. Thus, cityprayer was born!
Marilyn is eager to share and expand this vision with other leaders in the community. She has met with over 200 Christian women leaders and pastors’ wives sharing the passion she has for this movement, and for the city of Denver. The enthusiastic response she has received, the monthly increase in attendees, and the strong presence of God in each meeting confirms that this is God at work…in the hearts of His people…for the heart of this city.
